IDEC FA-2J PLC CEC/CEV/HUT TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

SOFTWARE ASSISTANCE

1. The Idec Program Loader/PROM Burner, Part Number PF2-2H4RE-CBL, can be used to monitor the PLC program, change Data Register Setpoint values, and "burn" the EEPROM Memory Packs.

2. Each PLC program in this manual contains a set of instructions to use the Hand Held Program Loader/PROM Burner. The PLC communication parameters need to be returned to their default of 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit and Even Parity by pressing the Pushbutton located inside the control panel, "When Using the Program Loader On-site".

3. To see what Unique Program Internal Relay is in use press the following keys on the Program Loader that are shown in bold type below depending on whether you are in a CEC, CEV or a Hut:

4. After selecting the appropriate file name go to F5 - Communication Menu. Verify the COM Port settings are correct at the F1 - Communication Settings. Make sure if your laptop is using a Serial Mouse (9 Pin D-Sub Connector not a round connector) that you reboot the PC to fully remove the Mouse Driver from memory after unplugging the mouse. Most laptops only have one Serial Port so set the COM Port Setting to COM 1. The other settings should be left at their default of PLC Network 1:1, 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, Even Parity, and 500 mSec. Timeout. Press Enter to exit the Communication Settings submenu. Locate the pushbutton inside the control panel labeled; "Press When Using the Program Loader On-Site". This changes the communication parameters for one hour to communicate with the laptop or a Hand Held Program Loader/PROM Burner at 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, and Even Parity.

5. Select F4 - Ladder Monitor from the Communication submenu. Press the Function Key, F1 MONITOR, to activate the Monitor Mode from the opening menu which you can return to by pressing 1. Press Function Key, F6 SAVE, to save any Ladder Monitor Boxes and Bit Monitors that will be created. The F6 icon at the bottom of the screen should be highlighted.

6. Press the 2 key to go to Screen Menu #2. The bottom line icons have now changed. Press the Function Key, F2 GROUP, F1 OPEN, and, F1 D R, Select the box that defaults to 4 Columns wide by 4 Rows high by pressing Enter twice. The sixteen boxes can be filled in with individual Data Register numbers such as 812 (Present Temperature), 813 (Heat On Setpoint), 851 (Present Humidity), etc. by pressing Enter after each Data Register number is entered. Press F7 Return and accept the default position of the window on the screen or move it with the keyboard arrow keys and press the Esc Key when finished. Press Function Key, F4 RETURN, when finished to begin monitoring the PLC Data Registers. The present value of these Data Registers will be displayed below the Data Register number in the box created. Selecting the Modify option can change the Data Registers being monitored. Additional boxes can also be created of varying sizes depending on how many Data Registers or Counters that need to be monitored at once.

7. To change a Data Register value press the 3 Key to go to Screen 3. Press the Function Key, F3 D R SET, and type in the Data Register Number to be changed. Press Enter then type in the desired value and press Enter again to download the new value to the PLC. For example to change the Heat On Setpoint in D.R. 813 to 66 Degrees type:

813

66 Enter

Press the Esc Key when you are finished.

8. To activate the Output Forcing Feature press the 3 Key to go to screen 3. Select the Function Key, F1 I/O SET. Type 100 and press the Function Key, F1 SET, to force on the PLC phantom input. Find the Output Number that is to be forced on such as 200, 207, etc. Add 100 to this value and enter that 300 series number and press the Function Key, F1 SET, to force on that output point. The Red LED for that selected output point will illuminate. To deenergize that point press the Function Key, F2 RESET, to turn it back off. Please note that certain outputs such as the Air Conditioners have timers built in to the program that prevent them from being energized unless they have been off for a certain length of time which is usually 5 to 10 minutes. This prevents their compressors from short cycling. If a Smoke Alarm is forced on, all HVAC Outputs will be disabled. The HVAC Loads will not come back on until the fault is cleared and their individual Minimum Off Timers have been satisfied. Press the Esc Key when you are finished. To disable the Output Forcing Feature select Phantom Input 101 from the Function Key, F1 I/O SET, 101 SET. If the Output Forcing Feature is not disabled the PLC will automatically disable it after one hour and the outputs will resume their normal operation.

9. To return to the initial menu press the 1 Key to return to Screen 1. To exit press the Function Key, F7 EXIT, or the Esc Key. Be sure the F6 SAVE Icon is highlighted to save the box you created for the next time you use this CEC/CEV/HUT program. Press the Y Key or the Function Key, F1 YES to acknowledge that you are exiting the Ladder Monitor. Press Esc to go back to the Main Menu and the Function Key, F7 EXIT, will exit the program back to a DOS prompt.

10. When finished using the laptop or Hand Held Program Loader/PROM Burner be sure to return the cables to their original position. If a modem is installed there is a 10 inch cable, PFA-1A51, that connects the FA-2J CPU to the RS-232 module, PF2-CLAU. The 25M25MCLAMOD RS-232 6 foot 25 Pin cable connects the RS-232 module to the communication port on the modem
